Post-Racial America: Thoughts on the Election of Barack Obama

bomakeshistory.jpg

I’m standing in line at the grocery store and sneeking a discrete glance at the cover of People magazine. The headline reads, “Barack Obama Makes History”.

The Theology of Culture Pubs — A Basic Premise

imagine.jpg

Churches tend to talk about “how God is working in our church.” Culture Pubs think about “how God is working in the world.”

This difference is rooted in a differing perspective about God.

Post Election Depression

I’m already feeling the end of the 2008 campaign.
I miss it.

I love the debate,
the focus on issues of substance,
the spike in emotional energy,
the writings of Christians about socialism and the NT, and the wondering if Christians understand either.

Here’s an idea: Let’s start engaging in debate about 2012. Will Joe the Plumber run for president?

What do you think?

Big Foot

I’m wondering how many readers of “Into the Mystic” intellectually affirm (vs. believe in) a possibility of the existence of Big Foot.

Long time readers will not be surprised by this inquiry. Having experienced paranormal activity including precognition and UFOs myself, I’m interested in fringe science. [Note: you’ll notice the 6-fingered hand that symbolizes The Human Event 2009 –ht to IMN design guru Dean Sharp and his multi-faceted design service and idea studio sharpdesingonline.com — is like the hand on the new series Fringe.]

I’m not expecting many to come out of the closet on this. But I’ve always though that the Pacific Northwest was the perfect place to film the X-Files, if you know what I mean.

See you in the mystic…

FRINGE

So far, the series has not captivated me. How about you?

The idea of fringe science has always jazzed me so I want it to work, but nothing yet.

See you in the mystic…

Where do you get your energy?

rules.jpg
Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, author of Creativity, writes,

“Each of us is born with two contradictory sets of instructions: a conservative tendency, made up of instincts for self-preservation, self-aggrandizement, and saving energy, and an expansive tendency made up of instincts for exploring, for enjoying novelty and risk–the curiosity that leads to creativity belongs to this set.” Continue reading ‘Where do you get your energy?’

From the Mystic Mailbag: “The Word”

I received a question from a friend in the Philippines. I’ve paraphrased his question below.

Alex,

Last week, I had a conversation with someone. While we were talking, he asked me if my insight was biblical.

I asked him, why does my insight have to be biblical? Isn’t that being fundamentalist?
